Game of War - Core Tool – Find The Best Cores and Pieces
Guide to the Best Core Recipes for Combat
This tool will help you assemble the best possible combat cores - watch the video and check out the Guide to Combat Boosts for more info.
This list is created by adding together all of the combat boosts which are then weighted by how effective they are:
Tier 1 Boosts: Troop Attack, Enemy Attack Debuff
Tier 2 Boosts: Troop Health, Enemy Health Debuff
Tier 3 Boosts: Troop Defense, Enemy Defense Debuff
Tier 4 Boosts: Trap Boosts, Siege Boosts
This list is automatically kept up to date as new gear is released.
Note:The troop type filters don'ts currently work for SUICIDE gear.
When attacking, you generally want to be attacking with one troop type. As such, in the Attack Cores list, 50% cavalry attack is better than 30% troop attack.

When defending, you are nearly always defending with multiple troop types. As such, in the Defense List, 30% Troop Boost is better than 50% cavalry attack. It also takes into account Trap Attack.

This is not relevant for most players, but if you are going to be zeroing people with over 20mil troops then the optimum gear becomes very different. Specifically Health Debuff and Defense Boost become pointless and Defense Debuff becomes very good.

I just do not understand this website it says that there are core recipes here but the only thing it tells me are what the boots are this is information I can get directly in the games where are the actual recipes found?
How about a core recipe for a hero-less Target? I know Xio has posted them, but would love to see the recipe here
I recently got hero level 60 which has 25% core high range boost available. I have experimented by crafting cores with and without the 25% boost skilled (same exact cores/pieces) and do not see any difference in the final item. Can anyone comment on what I am doing wrong?
It’s working now… guess I needed to restart the app. Nothing to see here.
Are you going to reweight based on Poseidon and Aries debuffing all of the troop health, troop attack, and quite a bit of troop defense? I have found it much more effective to have specific troop type health for example, as found with the Cerberus piece. Thank you for these very helpful tools!
The link for ice crystal piece takes you to the ice crystal core page
I can make strong defense cores. I use an app called “Core Crafting Tool” developer John Doe. All cores are on there and it lets you customize it for defense, debuffs, attack, etc…
Hi. Love the Tool! Do you have a list of individual cores and pieces, with their boosts? I’m trying to craft a custom Range Attack Set, but have to go through all the pieces in GOW to find what i need.
You’re able to look at the cores and pieces here:
Hi Slaggy,
On the defense side, it will only display 5 cores and 15 pieces regardless of what number you select for it to show. If you could fix this problem that would be great. I love the site and this is a great resource.
Thanks, will take a look
Should be working now
Thank you Slaggy! Your hard work is much appreciated.
I also cannot get to show more than 5 cores on the defense side.
You have a terrific site. Thanks!!!
I am unable to get more than 5 defensive cores to show up on the screen. It works great for attack cores but not defence cores.
Thanks again
Can I get the highest defense debuff pieces? I’m trying to make a trap killer core and need to figure out the best recipes.
A few suggestions
1. Given that many of the cores and pieces that show up in the filter are parts of secret sets, the tool needs to either take into account the mystery bonus boosts somehow or at least there should be a filter to allow the tool to exclude cores and pieces that are part of secret sets.
2. Given the vast number of cores and pieces, it would be helpful if the tool would show a few more cores an pieces on the list than it does. It looks to stop at 15 pieces. this gets about 10% through my list. Once i’ve used up the pieces the tool recommends, then what? Or in my case, i prefer only to use the pieces on your list that are not part of a secret set. That cuts the list by 50% or so. Maybe just doing suggestion 1 would help a bit since eliminating the set pieces would force other cores and pieces to move up the list.
thanks for your consideration
Hi, this has been a popular request and I think it’s a good idea. Will look into it shortly
Slaggy you the man!
When I filter it to show Cav or ranged it just gives the same pieces. It will show pieces for ranged on infantry and vice versa.
Can you update stats for wild troops
Hi, working on it. Should be ready soon.
Can the Best Cores lists be expanded to show the top 10 of each? Also can we expand the core pieces list. Thank you.
Hi Slaggy…..I’m a little confused about the weighed items numbers. I keep a spreadsheet of all the best cores and pieces and i have noticed that the boost amount for the same items changes. How can Elegant Red Ribbon under the suicide section have a 59.6% a month ago and only a 51.3% today? Noticed this on dozens of items throughout.
Hi Slaggy,
Would it be possible to extend these lists to show the top 10 or 20 cores for each equipment slot? Thank you for all the great information you have on this site. Keep up the good work.
Hi Slaggy, im a bit of an old git and this is my first internet game, so bear with me. can you tell me if have to add skill points to both base set 5 and full set when applying my points. I have all research completed and there seems to be some confusion about it in our alliance. thank you for the site as it helps greatly considering the lack of info on how to play with GOW.
Hi Gengis, i quite don’t understand your question. What points are you trying to add where ? There are no points to add other than the hero skill tree points, as well as setting your specialised bonus. Once these are done and the gear is equipped you will receive the full set bonus. Set bonus stats won’t show in full until the gear is equipped. If you are talking about something else please reply and ill try to assist.
Gengis if you have all 7 pieces then yes you need to add skill points to both base because base is 5 and full set is 7 hope that helps Blitz
Can’t find the piece ‘antique Pottery’ under pieces lvl6 for defense; it used to be at the top of the list and now it doesnt show anywhere on the list! There must an error
For the Core Tool – The Best Core Recipes, is it possible to omit cores and pieces from the secret core sets? Thanks
Agreed that would be great, so that you do not have to double check that a core or piece is not from a set. However, memory will come with the repetition of making sets.
Hello, I can’t load your new secret core recipes page still. I emailed the errors I had to hopefully help. There’s several items that I’m trying to find the recipes for: helm-Perished Obliteration; armor- Ominous Epidemic; feet- Ominous Mutilation; weapon- Murderous carnage; acc.- Catastrophic Armageddon. Do you have these available on your site? Thank you so much! I tried scrolling through and looking without much luck.
I’m not understanding this tool at all. How is it ‘weighted’?
Love this tool. Do you plan to update anytime with mystery bonuses included? I’m curious about the best core gear for someone who has 6 pieces but not set bonuses. Is it still better to craft the set, or mix and match the different recipes to make better? Thanks again
What are the best 4 piece core sets?
How do I increase my traps in my city when it’s only limiting me to 270k? Am done with the research, am I doing something wrong? Thank you.
If you complete the defense tree research, you will be able to have 375k traps in your walls.
where do i find 4 piece core receipies
A request/suggestion… You have a gear from materials tool, which is awesome, and there’s also this core recipie tool which is great as well. It would be great if there was a combination of these two, where we could input our cores and pieces, how many pieces we can use in each item, and it show us the best core gear we can craft. I know it’s probably a lot of work, and something that may already be on your list of things to do, but it’d be amazing if you could pull that off.
Defense core armor, samurai should be there.
Lvl 1 – 7.78% to 9.34%
2 – 10.46 – 12.55
3 – 19.21 – 23.05
4 – 30.36 – 36.43
5 – 53.85 – 64.62
6 – have not crafted yet, sorry.
Hi Slaggy, was wondering when the troop filters for suicide cores will be available
hi when i choose anything other then attack it doesn’t work it always brings up attack cores, ive tried different combinations same everytime, when i click on say suicide and hit go it comes up with not only attack cores but the attack button is red anyone else have this problem
Is there anything in the works to produce a tool for the best wonder core suit recipes? just wondering.
There is no “best” core set for the wonder. There are many good recipes but it also comes down to you and your opponent. Tactics and remaining calm are far more important
Just for clarification
Suicide setting is less likely to reduce losses? So would Attack boost settings be better for Rallying 1 billion + players?
Suicide gear ignores health/defense etc generally because you know your rally loss is capped at 2.375m. So the idea isn’t to save your troops its to save the leaders hero. You want a high enough attack that you kill more than 2.375m troops so your hero comes back with one troop (If you win the hit ie cause more damage than caused to you, the hero returns because you only capture a hero if you kill all the troops of the opponent and kill more troops than he did)
Are you able to solo 500 mil power and lower with suicide cores?
Hi Slaggy
Awesome site i use it lots
I think a core building wizard would be amazing in order for us to try different combinations and see what boost range we could get.
Perhaps eventually even a set wizard you come up up with some awesome sets
Thanks for all of your hard work
Hi, to make my Four horsemen core set, should I just use my apocalypse and seal pieces?
When figuring attack boost, do you get the troop specific boost AND the troop boost? For example, the Rusted Headress Core: Infantry Attack – 81%, Troop Attack – 60% Would that make your boost 141% if you only send Infantry?
And how do you come up with 177.4% boost when I see Infantry 81%, Troop 60%, Health 75%. That’s 216%. Not understanding the formula used. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks
Hi,
It is a weighted boost – read the info at the top of the page for more information.
Hi, yes you do
Is there any information as to how different core recipes effect the final name of the crafted core piece? For example, theres aged, catastrophic, lifeless, endless, just to name a few. It would be interesting if a guide could be put together that would help you determine what pieces/boosts are prevalent in someone else’s set of cores. Thanks.
I would like to know this aswell
The name of the core is dependent on the first piece you use to make it. Example being, if you use a coin piece in first piece slot, the core will be “minted”. Or hourglass will make it “gradual”. Don’t know them all, but it’s definitely dependant on first piece. Quality or number of pieces doesn’t seem to make a difference. Although 6 piece items may have a secondary name like “divine” if part of a set
What pieces, in what order, are needed for equus in the dragon king set?
I have a question if your rally started marching can you switch from regular gear to cores?
Hi, yes you can at any time before the rally hits.
Slaggy, I don’t get the equation being used to choose cores and pieces in this stool. I selected L6 Strategic Cavalry and the first two Armor pieces are Krampus Pauldron and Famishing Armor, neither of which have any Cavalry stats. The third piece down (Centurion Armor) should be the first piece on the list shouldn’t it? If I’m trying to craft a specific troop-type core set, it really doesn’t help to have random cores and pieces pop up simply because they have better total boosts
Hi,
It is because both of those are better for Cavalry than the Centurion Armor (despite not containing any cavalry specific boosts).
Sorry, Can you elaborate any? Centurion has 94.4% Strat Attack and 80.6% Strat Cav Attack Debuff. Two Tier 1 Boosts (though admittedly the second is worth less as it is troop specific and not against Infantry or Ranged which would be better for a Cav piece). Krampus has 94.9% Strat Def and 94.6% Strat Health. This is a higher total boost, but these are Tier 2 and Tier 3 boosts. Factor in that Cores are unlikely to be used against weak opponents and the Defense Boost seems to be worth even less. So how is this better? Not trying to be argumentative, trying to better understand. 😀
Hi, The main thing here is that it is assumed you are attacking a balanced army so that cavalry attack Debuff for example is divided by 3.
what i dont understand on this tool isif you are sending a specific type of troop, as in a missile attack, why would you have cavalry attack or ranged attack cores and pieces in a list that is supposed to be for infantry attack? theres no other benefits in the cores and pieces that will help in the attack.
I mean besides the high health and defense that is in some of the items, but you don’t really need defense if you are attacking.
Hi, that depends on if you care about your own troops dying or not. You definitely should for KvKs!
So when rally trapping is it better to focus on overall troop defense or troop specific attack? Say a rally is incoming with all inf and I’m fully reinforceed with ranged should I use ranged cores or troop defense?
In my experience when I know what they are sending in a missile I will absolutely counter with an anti missile. The results are pretty amazing. They send all Calvary, then you core up with infantry attack and make sure you’re reinforced with infantry. My last missile attack the attacker lost 73 million to my 12 million with my purple cores. I had 1.9 million buffer of t1/t2 killed to there 2 million t4.
So if I have an incoming rally if cavalry against my city…Should I use infantry attack cores or just full defense ccores? Thanks
When will the new cores and pieces be put into your calculation?
Hey slaggy how hard would it be to make a core creating tool? as in you select the core and level and add in the pieces and whichever level pieces and craft just like you would in game? could just set a fixed rate of the middle for the boost so would be easier to create, but would give more players an idea of what there core will turn out to be?
says recipies but none to be found, only ingredients
Hi, have you watched the video? That should help explain how to use it. But yes, would be better described as a tool to help you create recipes.
hi slaggy……love the website…..what is a good core set for holding the wonder during a kvk after I have taken it
So what you are saying is if I use the top cores from the suicide list, with the top pieces from the level six piece list, than I should be able to hit someone that is extremely large, even though they put on a few cores? And what are your recommendations for gems to embed in these cores?
Hi, doing this will still normally result in terrible losses for you (hence why it is called suicide gear). If you want to zero someone without care for your own losses then using suicide gear/cores should help do this as efficiently as possible.
Fantastic website! Appreciate all the work that has been put into it. Particularly helpful when as a leader and T4 core player many come to you for gear advice. Way easier to refer all the up and coming peeps here, add in a few personal notes and then answer follow up questions when they have had time to digest. Thanks for lightening the load 🙂
One suggestion or rather, request. I have yet to find a website that has a Build Your Hero type of a tool. There might be one around that I just haven’t found. If not, it would be awesome to see on created that allowed you to add in the gear, gems, and maybe even set your hero skill points, listing stats similarly to in game. Just a thought. Again, thanks for all the hard work.
Hi, thanks! That is a good idea and is on the to-do list. Will take a bit of work though so might be a little while!
Page is down for me!! Nooo!!
Still seeing some issues with piece list. Shouldn’t Seal of Pestilence LV6 make the top 15 for defense regular/strategic all troops? Lower limit of troop attack and attack debuff is 10% and 15% respectively plus troop defense (weighted at 40% under your schema) would put total boost at 29.8%?
Thanks once again – this tool has been tricky from a technical point of view. Should be working now.
Is there a tool to create the best core suit to win and control a wonder? That would definitely be the suit for people to look for these days, especially with the changes going on with the kvk kill event scoring.
Another comment I have is that for selection troop type (ie regular vs strategic) it would be interesting to see what your tool turns out if an All feature was selected for taking rallies. Also maybe publishing a little insight into your weighting between the tiers you list would be helpful.
Hi, interesting idea, will have a think about that. And sure for Attack and Defense – Tier 1 = 100%, Tier 2 = 80%, Tier 3 = 60% and Tier 4 = 40%
That’s a great idea. It would be very cool to see the results of that.
how do you make your gear annihilation or apocalyptic core? i forgot the proper term but i seen in the super wonder all different core but the description of the core was the same
Go to resources and then secret core recipes, then take out your wallet and purchase millions of packs of gold. Don’t forget to send some gifts my way afterwards… 😛
Theoretically I could take the best weapon core and add the best pieces to it and cone up with the best possible core, correct? When I did that very thing the core cane out having more health than attack, using your attack formula. Is there something I am missing?
Hi, yes that is how it works. The boosts are within a set range and not a precise number if thats what you mean?
Slaggy,
Love the website and all the research that has gone into it, I find it very interesting. I have a question regarding crafting a set of cores specifically for the purpose of doing as much damage (and hopefully burning) very large targets with 30m+ troops. I’m sure troop attack and defense debuff will be the most important boosts in this scenario, but I’m wondering what significance will troop health and attack debuff have? Since the rally defender will most likely kill the whole rally march anyway, is there really much benefit? Or should you just try and get every last bit of attack and defense debuff as possible? Thanks
Hi, yes that is correct. If none of your troopa are surviving then there is little point focussing on troop attack debuff and troop health. Unless you boost them to the point where troops do start to survive.
Note – The troop type filters aren’t currently working for Suicide Gear – it always just shows a list of the best Overall gear.
I think you should try modifying the defense selection… Some of the Hallows pieces should be ranked higher than things like red envelope because they are troop boosts and all your troops fight (also might consider this for when someone selects all troops vs a single troop). I generally count troop boosts as worth 3x when defending compared to a single troop st at like cav attack.
Hi, could you give me a specific example? For me Red Envelope isn’t showing up at all on the defense list
well for example… lets look at defense for level 5 pieces and level 6 pieces… Seal of war is #2 with a 41% boost at level 6 but doesn’t even register on the level 5 screen (boost should be at least 24% shouldn’t it if you are selecting health as the important stat from the piece for defending…
or lets look at level 5 brass key… i see troop defense on that being at the lowest 15.12 and its rated 13.3..? If i look at seal of death the lowest is 14.36% for troop defense but you also get an additional 11.49% troop attack so if i’m choosing between brass key and seal of death for defending I’d choose seal of death hands down everytime. same thing with elephant tusk…
Or glass shard vs golden nugget… would you rather have 3% more health with the nugget and 15% cav attack or 3% less health and an additional 10% attack to every troop type (30% total bonus if you dont count siege)
Thanks Steve – There was a bug with the list of pieces caused by it getting to big. Should be fixed now. Appreciate you pointing this out
Funny Story – an alliance mate was super excited to craft some cores so he came to this site and crafted an infantry set based on what your “Best Combat Cores” tool told him. I asked him what pieces he used and he listed off pieces such as, “Mystic Knot, Golden Nugget, Three Legged Toad, Etc.”
Crafters Beware: If you’re making an infantry set, don’t put some of the best Ranged and Calvary attack pieces in that set. You might as well flush money down the toilet. /FACEPALM
Hi, so I’m guessing he didn’t set the filter to Infantry?
Suicide infantry tab throws those up as top 4 lvl 6 pieces, Slaggy.
Thanks – hadn’t noticed that the troop filters aren’t currently working for Suicide gear. Will had a note until I get it fixed.
i have the same problem, when I click suicide it shows the exact same gear no matter which troop type I choose
Shaggy…I have to say your site is a godsend. You clear up so many questions for me then proceed to raise further questions and answer those. I m dipping my toe into the pool that is core crafting and figured I would start with the definitive source, your website. I also noticed that there was a hint of frustration with people who were asking questions which you answered in the video. Try as I might, I cannot figure out where the video is for core/pieces. The video above is for the troop training calculator.
Also, do you have a place where I coud pose a general question for the community? I have a GOW problem and would like to see how some other players think I ought to tackle it.
Hi, thanks – have fixed the video to be the correct one! You can either post your question on the most relevant page or head over to the forums and post there. Either should be fine.
I saw a chart on Attack Gear that changed Boost % based on whether your target was smaller than 20 mil or greater than 20 mil. Risque Gown gave a 80% boost for a target under 20 mil and a 100% boost for targets over 20 mil. Also, Pumps of Peril gave a boost of 81.4% for under 20 mil and 63% for a target over 20 mil. I’m getting a lot of questions, How do you account for those changes?
Hi, Those boosts are weighted based on the usefulness of certain boosts in different situations. They shouldn’t be taken as absolute %s but instead used to compare the overall effectiveness of different items. Hope that makes sense,..
Hi Slaggy,
When will the Item Boosts be tiered in Terms of Attack items scoring higher in Attack Cores VS a combination of total (Attack, Health & Defense etc.) boosts?
Seems the site is combining total boosts still but I could be wrong?
Hi, if you just want to see the items with the highest attack boost then the Cores and Pieces page should help you out here: http://www.insidegameofwar.com/cores-pieces/sets/TroopAttack/
Super info. I’ll be sitting down with you when I next craft. Thank you sooo much.
This s great tool thanks for the effort how often will it be updated with new pieces and cores
Hi, I have been working on some backend stuff to make it easier and quicker to keep the site updated. (And to answer your question all the latest stuff should be up today or tomorrow at the latest).
Love all the great info in find here..I’ve been so lost on crafting core until I found this. Thank you so much
Dev
You are welcome Debra!
Rob
This site is great man I lost a wonder fight to guy who got his stats strait off your site. I hadn’t loss wonder fight by that margin before. Are you updated based on new pieces constantly is my question with them coming out with new every couple weeks? Didn’t see Cyclopes or New Cerberus on here yet
Hi, no. I try to stay on top of it but it can be a little while before they make it onto the site. The text at the top of the page should show the most recent update. Will hope to have them up this week.
Im sorry to say this to those who have been mislead or don’t understand this site/helpfulness, but Slaggy – FLIPPIN’ AMAZING job dude!!! Thank you so much. I don’t think an understanding of the difficulty in creating such items is understood. So, I want to take my time to post this – to state to you – that you are incredible for spending the time on all of this for everyone to use.
On feedback – I think the mystery stats and what is used in creating those should also be a section, or adding ideal sets/not limited to troop type but maybe attack/health/attack debuff.
I would like to speak personally if desired, let me know and we can make it happen. Just shoot over an email. Great work brochacho.!
Thanks Rob and those are good suggestions yes. Working through a few ideas now.
Where are the recipes?
Hi, if you watch the video it should show you how you can use the tool to find the best recipes. That said you are the second person to ask this so think I could probably make the tool more intuitive. Perhaps a core building wizard.
Hey slaggy…thanks for the great tool.i really wanted to know if I should do full lvl 6 pieces with lvl 6 core or lvl 5 pieces would do.im getting thin on the pieces and its a huge concern for me.
Hi Frank, I think most people are using level 6 cores with level 5 pieces. Exactly for the reason that you state.
So, no recipe… just a list of everything we already know from our own inventory?
The word Recipe is misleading lol.
Hi James, I’m not sure if you watched the video but this is a list of the best combat cores, it’s not just the stats you see in your inventory but instead their total boosts combined and weighted for their effectiveness. You then combine them with the pieces from the bottom of the page. This in theory will give you the best possible recipes for whatever your trying to craft for (e.g. strategic cavalry). Let me know if that is not clear and I’ll update the explanation.
I suppose I get what you mean.
When you see the term Recipe you would expect to see a few examples of what you may create using pieces X Y Z mixed with core X Y Z. I suppose that’s what I was (expecting). Although I can see how this could be helpful to somebody.
I’m more interested in what you can actually create and fun things like Mystery Bonus Stats that appear if you get the right combination of pieces together.
A longer list of pieces would be useful, since there are so many piece options out there. Currently it just lists the four horsemen pieces, which are great, but hard to get. Besides, you will want to put six pieces on every single piece of gear, so we need to see at least, let’s say, the top 20 or so options. Thanks for the great tool!
Yes of course – have made the list longer.
Thanks!
Is it just my broweser or is there no way to list more than 3 in each section?
Hi, I have just increased it to 5 but it is not currently customisable at the moment.
Thank you kindly, Sir.
Hi,
I think there are needed 2 fixes:
1. The section “Pieces for Regular All” only appears in Attack tab;
2. You have an error in release word (“relsease”).
Thanks for the good work.
Thanks – fixed now
